Frequently Asked Questions

 Q. How do I recycle my empty containers?

Our skincare containers are made from 100% recyclable aluminium. To recycle, simply clean out any residue, replace the lid and put out with your regular recycling! There is no need to remove labels or the wadding sealer inside the lids as these will be destroyed by heat during the recycling process.

NOTE: Please do not put aluminium bottle screw caps into recycling individually as they are too small and will fall through the machinery. Best to screw them back on the aluminium bottle prior to recycling or pop inside an aluminium tin with lid to keep contained.

Q. Why did you choose to use aluminium containers?

The primary material options available for skincare containers today are glass, plastic and metal. While each of these materials has their pros and cons, we believe that aluminium is currently the most sustainable material available for cosmetic containers. It is light, durable, highly valued for recycling and biodegrades significantly faster than glass or plastic. You can read the results of our research on our HOME page . (Scroll down to the daffodils!)

Q. Can your containers be easily re-purposed?

We have deliberately kept labels to an absolute minimum so you have the option to use the empty containers for other purposes. (They are perfect for travelling as they are so light.)

Q. Can you reuse the aluminium containers?

Absolutely! In fact, we reward you for sending us your empties as this brings us one step closer to a zero-waste cycle. Keep the padded mailer from your original order and start saving your empties. When you have enough to fill the mailer (put smaller tins inside larger tins to fit more in), simply send them back to us. We will email you a voucher worth $15 OFF your next order, when you return 10 or more containers!

Q. How are containers prepared for reuse?

One advantage of aluminium over other materials is that being a metal it is less porous and capable of withstanding higher temperatures making it much easier to sterilise. (This is why most commercial kitchens use stainless steel counter tops and appliances.)

After removing the labels, returned containers are carefully evaluated for damage. Those in good condition are thoroughly cleaned then fully sterilised before being added back into our container inventory.

Directly prior to being filled, containers are sanitised again using isopropyl alcohol. (Isopropyl alcohol is commonly used to kill germs in a variety of industries such as hospitals, doctors' surgeries, laboratories and food-related areas. It kills 99.99% of germs within about 10-30 seconds, making it the perfect sterilisation tool.)

Q. Can I buy the Native Peach Toner with a spray attachment?

We made the decision not to sell our toner with a spray attachment. These attachments include a mix of materials including plastic, metal and glass making them unsuitable for recycling.

We also believe that applying the toner with a cotton pad is more effective than a spray for sweeping away residue and dead skin cells.

If you are set on using a sprayer, our toner bottle has a standard 24410 screw closure. You might just find that you can re-use a spray attachment from a product that you already own! (eg Sukin)

Q. Why don't you use bottles for the cleanser & moisturiser?

We have elected to use aluminium jars instead of bottles for our lotion-based products. Here are our reasons:

1. It eliminates the need for a pump which is not recyclable

2. You can easily control exactly the amount of product you want to use

3. You can access ALL of the product where as with bottles, it is almost impossible to completely empty the container

4. It is much easier to clean out the container in preparation for recycling  (Removing cream or lotion-based residue from a bottle can be quite difficult)

Finally, we believe that being able to touch and smell the product is an important part of the overall skincare experience. This is much easier with a wide-mouthed jar than with a bottle. Just make sure your hands are clean and dry before dipping in!
